This made me think. A lot. This made me realize that I’ve been focused on losing weight over getting healthy. I’m teaching my girls that depriving yourself of things you love is better than being fat.
Oh, don’t get me wrong - I’m not saying we should all sit around and eat whatever we like whenever we like. But I’ve been doing some really stupid shit like not having bananas and almonds because OMG CARBS! I’ll stay FAT!! What does that tell my daughters? It tells them even healthy foods are to be avoided, unless you’re already thin, and even then, BE CAREFUL because you might re-gain the weight. THE HORROR!
That is STUPID. That is CRAZY. In the beginning, this was about getting healthy. Weight loss didn’t have a whole lot to do with it really, although that was a nice bonus. But once I started losing weight, I lost sight of what my goals were. I wanted to lower my blood pressure, reduce my risk for diabetes, etc.
So, I’m going back to where I started all this - the Primal Blueprint. (I’ve been doing Atkins. I won’t say a bad word about that particular program - it’s just not for me. I like fruit. Fruit is good for me. Really!) I’m going to focus on the numbers that matter like my blood pressure, blood sugar, etc. instead of the numbers that don’t say anything about my health (like my weight or measurements).
Because I want my girls to know that it’s not about fat or thin. It’s about taking care of my body so I can do all the things I want to do. And so I can live a good, long time in order to, you know, bug the shit out of them for even longer.

I'm a wife and a mom and whatever else I feel like these days. I have issues with focusing for more than...ooh, there's a squirrel in my yard. I'm sorry. What were you saying?
